Primary school rewards best PLE performers

Hillside Day and Boarding Primary School in Matimba Sector, Nyagatare District, on Sunday rewarded their best pupils in the Primary Leaving Examinations.

Of the 132 candidates who sat for PLE at Hillside, 130 passed in the first division while two came in the second division.
The school also produced the 12th best candidate in the country, Regis Rukundo. The fourth, fifth and sixth best candidates in English were also from Hillside, which was also the best in the district.

All candidates were rewarded with an assortment of scholastic materials, including suitcases and books.
Speaking at the ceremony held at Matimba Auditorium Hall, the school’s legal representative, Col. (Rtd) Thaddeo Gashumba, hailed the candidates and urged them to keep up the academic spirit and become the school’s flag bearers in the schools they will be admitted.

“I thank the pupils for the good performance they displayed in PLE, but most importantly, their teachers who spent sleepless nights to make our dream come true,” he said.

The retired Colonel challenged other pupils in lower classes to draw an example from their brothers and sisters.
“Now that these candidates have put the school in the limelight, it is other pupils in lower classes who remain with a task of performing 100% in the coming years,” he said.

“I promise and I will make sure, through your collaboration, that this year’s performance is even better”.
Gashumba promised parents that through their contribution, he will set up a secondary school next year.

Brigadier General Augustine Turagara, one of the parents present at the awarding ceremony, urged students to adopt the culture of patriotism and strive to become good future leaders of the country.

In an interview, Denis Kamanzi, the fourth best performer in English countrywide, said that he will continue working hard to excel in education.
