The national primary leaving examinations commence this morning with 181,470 pupils expected to sit for the exams.
The Executive Secretary of the National Examination Council (NEC),
John Rutayisire, said that this year has seen an 8.2 percent increase
in candidates.
“NEC, in partnership with the Rwanda Defence Forces, on Monday
finished distributing examination material in all districts and
everything in terms of security and supervision is fine” Rutayisire
said.
He also revealed that the number of students who will sit for
O’level examinations is 61,729 whereas those who will sit for the
Advanced level examinations number 51,294.
Rutayisire noted that there are 150 examination centres for primary
examinations across the country, 168 centres for ordinary level and 119
for A‘level.
He added that O’level students are expected to increase by 15.6
percent and Advanced level students by 17 percent.
Speaking to The New Times, the State Minister in charge of Primary and
Secondary Education, Dr. Mathias Harebamungu, said that he would
officially oversee the exercise in some rural schools.
“We are 100 percent prepared because the exams and all the tools are already available in all examination centres.”
