The 2010 National Examinations results for primary and O’level were, yesterday, release, by the State Minister in charge of Primary and Secondary Education Dr Mathias Harebamungu.
The 2010 results show an increase in the general performance in both Primary and O’level compared to 2009.
In 2010, 82.5 percent of the students who sat for the national exams in primary passed while in 2009, only 68 percent passed.
The total number of students who sat for the 2010 national exams in primary was 161,445.
In the primary leaving exams, girls performed better than boys, with an average of 52.81 percent.
However, when it came to the number of pupils who passed in Division One, boys came first with an average 61.59 percent against 38.11 percent for girls.
Girls also showed domination in the exams on the number that turned up to sit for the exams last year. Out of the 161,445 pupils who sat for the nationals, 54.11 percent were girls compared to 45.89 percent of boys.
Speaking to the media, Harebamungu explained that the rise of the number of female pupils is as a result of the government policy on the education of the girls.
“Demographically, girls in Rwanda are more than boys, but the past policies of keeping them out of school, kept their numbers low. But now that the policy favours them, we are seeing their numbers increase by the day,” said Harebamungu.
In O’level, 59,182 students sat for the exams compared to 51,795 in 2009.
84.88 percent of the total number of students who sat for exams passed. 21.73 percent passed in the first division while the rest are in the second third and fourth divisions.
Among those in first division, 68.2 percent are boys.
In Primary, Jesse Mugisha of Kigali Parents came first in the whole country followed by Sharon Ndayambaje also of Kigali Parents. Fandila Murinzi of Source du Savoir came in the third place while Moses Kalisa of Kigali parents came in the fourth place.
Others are Derrick Shema of Sonrise in Musanze, Diane Mwizerwa of Kabeza primary school, Credia Umuhire Ruzigana of Kigali Parents, Allan Butera of Kigali Parents, Adolphe Kalisa of Kigali Parents, Ritah Mutesi of Kigali Parents, Eric Sampras Shyaka of Kigali Parents and Regis Rukundo of Hill Side in Nyagatare district.
The Best performing students in O’level are Remy Jean Uwiragiye of Petit Semanaire Ndera topped in the country. Gisele Umutoniwase Hategikimana of Lycee Notre Dame de Citeaux came second; Derrick Shema Gasasira of NuVision High School came in the third place followed by Sabin Nshyimyumukiza of PS Saint Leon Kabgayi.
Others are Anderson Banihirwe- Petit Semanaire Ndera, Ben Sekyondwa- Nu-Vision High School, Ange Umwali-Lycee Notre Dame de Citeaux, Diana Munyana Musoni- NuVision High, Faustine Karasira Irebe-Lycee Notre Dame de Citeaux and Divine Mutoni of Nu-vision High School.
Best 10 schools in the country (O’level)
PS Saint Leon Kabgayi in Muhanga emerged the best followed by Petit Seminaire Ndera in Gasabo, Maranyundo Girls School in Bugesera, Petit Seminaire Nkumba in Burera, Nu-Vision High School in Gasabo.
Others are Petit Seminaire Rwesero in Gicumbi, Lycee Notre Dame de Citeaux in Nyarugenge, PS Virgo Fidelis Karubanda in Huye, PS St Pie X de Nyundo in Rubavu and Petit Seminaire Zaza in Ngoma.
Best 10 schools in the country (Primary)
They are; La Fontaine in Gasabo, Source de Savoir in Gasabo, La Decouverte Rwamagana, Sonrise Musanze, UPEC – Lumiere in Rusizi, Utunyenyeri in Kicukiro, Saint Andre in Muhanga, Kigali Parents in Gasabo and Good Foundation in Gasabo.
