Journalism students intake underway

Following the relocation of the School of Journalism from the Southern Province to Kigali City, the school has started registering students for the next intake.

Dr. Christopher Kayumba, the University Spokesperson and Media Advisor, confirmed this yesterday..

“We relocated to the new site as approved by the cabinet, and currently the registration exercise for the next intake is ongoing,” Kayumba said in a telephone interview.

The relocation of the school which previously shared premises with the Huye-based National University of Rwanda (NUR) was approved by the Cabinet about four months ago.

“Some of the students are on holiday while others are doing their internships. They will report here when the next academic year starts,” he added.

The school, which was merged with the Kigali-based Great Lakes Media Centre (GLMC), will be hosted at the Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST).

The relocation of the school is aimed at strengthening the capacity of GLMC, which previously only awarded certificates and diplomas to practising journalists.

The move was also aimed at facilitating practicing journalists to further their studies since most of them are employed at Kigali-based media houses.

GLMC also operated under NUR.

Kayumba said the school would follow the NUR calendar, adding that it will also offer evening programs to facilitate the working class as well as admit private students.
