News and Events > NUR students to register on-line starting 2011 Students at the National University of Rwanda (NUR) will no longer have to queue up to register for the 2011 academic year, following the introduction of an online student registration service. The service only requires a student to pay registration fees at any ECOBANK branch and then fill a registration form accessed online. “This is a break from the old practice that required students to clear with different university departments before registration. The new system if efficient and time saving,” Emmanuel Havugimana, the Varsity registrar said. The registration that starts on Monday December 6, and closes on January 6, requires government sponsored students to pay Rwf30,500 and a minimum of Rwf100, 000 for private students. “The Bank (ECOBANK) has been furnished with details of students and their respective years of study, students will be required to present their student identification numbers after which all their details will come up,” he added. “The new system will cut down on the misspelling of students’ names and students will pay for the year of study based on the results of deliberations furnished to the bank by the University.” According to the Registrar, students who are sponsored by FARG and other organisations will be required to get a ‘debt note’ from the University’s finance department to facilitate their online registration. Havugimana, said students who could have encountered problems during the registration exercise will be assisted between January 3-6. “We anticipate some problems with registration and for this reason affected students can visit our campuses in Rusizi, St Paul in Kigali and the main campus for assistance carrying with them bank receipts,” he said. Students outside the country will be required to pay up at any ECOBANK branches in Uganda, Kenya Burundi and Cameroon and present the bank receipts to any ECOBANK branch in Rwanda on return. Late registration done in January 10-14 will require students to pay a fine of Rwf15, 000, no more students will be registered after this date, according to Havugimana.
