News and Events > KIST to partner with private companies After a successful collaboration with furniture maker, MANUMETAL, Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), seeks to partner with other companies in the country. This was announced yesterday by the Vice Rector of KIST in charge of academics, Prof John Mshana    The Plans were announced, yesterday, by the Vice Rector of KIST in charge of academics, Prof John Mshana, during a ceremony to mark the end a partnership between the British Council and MANUMETAL, a furniture firm. “We want to open a link between KIST and industries in Rwanda, especially in the areas of engineering, applied sciences and architecture,” Mshana said. He also noted that the link will enable KIST students get practical skills which will improve their chances to get employment upon graduation.       Gustave Nkurunziza, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of MANUMETAL, thanked the British Council for linking them up with KIST. He revealed to The New Times that their sales had increased because of the partnership, Through the partnership, KIST offered expertise from its faculty and students to MANUMETAL which, Nkurunziza said, improved the quality of their products.  The Head of British Council in Rwanda, Michael Bibby, said that they had also provided similar assistance to other African countries, including Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa.    Prof Mshana told The New Times that KIST plans to link MANUMETAL with the institute’s department of creative design to assist the firm in designing their furniture to their clients’ expectations.
