MP’s construct classrooms for rural school

Over 20 Members of Parliament, over the weekend, joined residents of Shogwe sector in Muhanga District to build new classrooms for Ruli Catholic Primary School.

The MPs were led by the Speaker of Parliament, Rose Mukantabana.

They were joined by the Provincial Governor, Alphonse Munyentwari and various local leaders and security officials.

The team collected and laid bricks, cleared the ground for the new classroom structures and removed old tiles from the dilapidated structures. The activity was valued at Rwf1.5million.

Mukantabana noted that the parliamentarians have a goal of reaching out to residents countrywide, to support them in community building efforts.

She advised the residents to work hard towards development.

“Our intension is to be able to reach out to many Rwandans through community work activities. This helps parliamentarians support residents and share with them views on the development prospects,” Mukantabana said.

She added that the parliament needs views of the electorate, adding that parliamentary door is open to all residents to share their views and hold the leaders accountable.

Governor Munyentwari urged the residents to use the available resources to start up developmental projects.

“Development plans and strategies must start within the family and individual, without waiting for support from outside. This is the basis of performance contracts (imihigo) at community and national level,” Munyentwari said.

The school’s headmistress, Matilda Kambibi, said: “We are grateful to have this contribution. It is very important to our school and leaves us with the challenge to work hard to make our school environment better in the future.”
