News and Events > Over 900 teachers to get OLPC training Teachers from primary four to six, numbering 971 from all schools designated to receive laptops countrywide, will undergo an extensive training in using the One Laptop per Child (OLPC) computers. The second phase of the capacity building program kicked off yesterday in several primary schools in the Northern and Southern provinces. Speaking to The New Times, Nkubito Bakuramutsa, the OLPC Coordinator in the Ministry of Education, said that trainers have been dispatched to the schools. “The training aims at enriching teachers with knowledge about the programme, especially how to operate the laptops and fully integrate them in the education programme,” he said, adding that the exercise will run up to the end of this month and resume after the Genocide commemoration week that starts on April 7. “We hope that by the end of May, the trainers will have covered 118 schools that have OLPC in the country,” Bakuramutsa noted. The ministry is currently procuring an e-Solution software, that will provide students with access to digital content.. e-Solution will include a wireless Local Area Network connecting laptops to a school server which will enable students to save their daily work, Bakuramutsa clarified. The teachers will use the server to plan their courses using the digital teaching tools.  Currently a total of 58,941 laptops have been distributed countrywide.
